Calling All Cars! Calling All Cars! I Need Some Advice From My Posse!

I need advice from my posse and I need it right away!

I've been asked to speak to a group of college profs in about 10 days. They want to hear about no more than FIVE emerging technologies that support online learning.

This is a wonderful opportunity to make an impact… Continue

Hi Meri - just got your request for more info about Diigo & Flickr - so here goes. I like Diigo because the opportunity to mark up and comment on web content is such a useful tool for collaborative research with my A level groups. I tend to use delicious for my personal bookmarking and Diigo for student specific projects. This helps me keep a gap between my own learning platform and my delivery. With Diigo I can fire out a reading assignment to a group - they all mark up the text and I can monitor and oversee their annotations and add my own. Great stuff.

As for Flickr, there's so much you can do - digital storytelling, it's a great source for learning about Creative Commons and attribution which is of course a key digital literacy skill. Students can mock up magazine covers, illustrate poems, create a montage of shared class images etc.

In both cases, the tools really emphasize that web 2.0 technology allows for creation as well as consumption of content. I hope that helps - any more specific info needed, please feel free to come back to me :)

I use blogger, wikispaces, bloglines.
Podcasting-- Odeo (but no longer accepting uploads), Gcast (but no longer free), and now Yodio. Still looking at other options.
I like Twitter for asking and answering questions and offering and receiving suggestions. I also find out about new websites, videos, presentations. I also appreciate the camaraderie.

Hi Meri,

I have made it to NZ. We are pretty much settled in and enjoying the perfect summer days we have had for the last 2 weeks (a big improvement compared to Scotland).

However internet access is not set up at home yet. A technician is due come by on January 7. I will let you know when my connection to the outside world is on again.

With my best wishes for 2008

Hello Meri...Thanks for your interest!

There are several different programs that I am a part of here in good ol' Central Oregon...the most exciting of which is called StepOne Online for Parents. As a Director of Mentor Research Institute and Chief Advocate for this program I have opened many exciting doors of opportunity. 2008 will be a real tipping point year for us so the need for someone like you to help direct and build a story of well planed success is obvious. We are pregnant with potential that will flower with the right team of support. My 40th is scheduled for this summer....Kevin@MentorResearch.org will leap frog this site and may be alot easier to continue the conversation. Do you have a web page that describes what you do?

All the Best
Kevin~
