Hey guys! My name is Michelle and I’m an intern at a company called ePals. We offer a great free program called In2Books that I thought you might be interested in hearing about. In2Books is a free e-mentoring literacy program for 3-5th graders in Title 1 schools (where at least 40% of the children in the school are from low-income families.) Each student chooses five books from five different genres which are carefully selected by a team of children’s literature experts. The students are then ea…

I have a vision where students connect with their peers from around the world. Why? Because it's interesting. It's challenging to create global friendships, across cultures and across seas. And it's interesting to learn what other are studying. Even the very precise studies, like math, are not exact all over the world. Sometimes you need help figuring out a problem and someone from across the world, who studied it in a different way, will offer that different angle that opens your eyes. This is…

Hi, this seems like a very interesting place to learn and share. Thought I'd give it a whirl. I have an iweb 08 website. Every browser using Google, except Firefox, shows my adsense ad on my welcome page. Has anyone else had this problem or knows how to help me fix it. Thanks.

I'm new at this but it is soooo easy to get started. I can see a lot of time being used this way, which is why sometimes I won't even sit at the computer if I have a deadline due. Denise

This week I'm writing a series on technology and "The Achievement Gap"
on
my social desktop. This is the third part of the series which takes
concepts introduced by "'The Achievement Gap' and culture", and
distinguishes between established methods for addressing the problem
and making real changes. In my last article I promised to go more into
technology, but it seems that the problem I'm addressing needs more
distinction at this time.

Well, I finally found a couple of job openings...one at a regular school district and one at a charter school - just t/a jobs, but it makes sense for me while I pursue my degree. The only problem now is that if I do get a job, I would have to give up the infant who I am taking care of in my daycare (obviously) and I LOVE HER! It will break my heart - and I hope it will be worth it. I can try to stay in touch, but most of the time that doesn't work out. Other than that, I have the prospect of get…

This is the first part of the series which introduces the concept of

I work in Sarasota County, FL and we are in the process of installing the largest number of ActivBoards ever. We are putting an Activboard and Projector (the Plus 2) in EVERY classroom in our county! I am the project coordinator for my school, and am in the process of being certified by Promethean to be an ActivBoard trainer. (Will finish the course this Friday.) Two-thirds of my school is completed and the final third will be finished by December.) It has been exciting! This fall will be crazy…

There does seem to be some evidence that shows US schools are starting to lose competitive edge internationally.
"A
swiftly rising number of American workers at every skill level are in
direct competition with workers in every corner of the globe. While our
international counterparts are increasingly getting more education,
their young people are getting a better education as well. American
students and young adults place anywhere from the middle to the bottom
of the pack in all three…

Well, I passed the Teachers Aid test with a perfect score, and found some openings for paraprofessionals at a local charter school. Now I'm just waiting for some letters of recommendations from a couple of colleagues so that I can send my application in. Unfortunately, the openings may be filled by then :-(
Anyway, thanks for the comments about gifted education. I appreciate your support.

I'm working to promote international collaborations between educators.
Over the last week I've put up a sight where educators can register for
what I've been calling the
International Educators Collaborative.
It's still a little vague what that means because the more I talk to
educators about it the more the idea starts shift and come into greater
focus. My real purpose is to establish a means for educators to use the
web in a somewhat standard way that…

I think the biggest disconnect between teachers and technology comes
when a technological
medium requires too much time to understand or maintain. That's
probably part of the enthusiasm behind social networking; you have a
profile page that says who you are and then you can go about
communicating with people who are online in real time. It's simple and
requires no technological knowledge or understanding.
Applications which are in some ways like ning will
be best for educators, as…

Okay...i need to get me act together.
First and foremost...I need to change the photo on my profile--see...my problem is that I'm the one that always takes the pictures---there are no photos of me. So my goal for this weekend is to get a better photo--i was using my Kent photo, but I may have to revert to that until I get a better pix.
Enough said about that nonsense.
Right now I'm basically working on several projects. I have to get my courses ready for Fall early--becau…

From my blog http://nkilkenny@wordpress.com
Reggio Emilia educational approach and philosophy insists that children learn readily from their environment, and there for the environment is the ‘third’ teacher. I’m assuming that
the teachers/parents and the child themselves are the first and second
teachers.
So much has been written about this educational approach that I posted links to information below. You might wonder what an

Project Based Learning - notes and links
I took part by Skype in a session at the NECC last Monday on Reinventing Project Based Learning - Jane Krauss and Suzie Boss's forthcoming book. It was an interesting experience. I was able to hear what was going on in the lecture room via Skype and follow along the presentation as Jane had sent me a copy. Whilst this was going on I was taking notes on a wiki page and having a Skype chat with… Continue

In an effort to get into a school system faster, I have taken my teacher's assistant exam. I'm waiting for the results, but I am fairly certain that I did well. Right now, I have a daycare and after school program in my home, and that would work for me too - I would like to eventually offer classes in the program, such as piano instruction, marital arts instruction, mixed media art instruction and performing arts instruction. That is the dream-plan B. Otherwise, I will be happy to serve in a cla…
